What does the error E-9 mean?

"E-9" in the display means the battery is almost out of power. Change the battery now. If the message reappears after the battery has been replaced, reset the meter. To reset the meter, remove the battery, press any meter button, then reinsert the battery. What does the error message on my Accu-Chek product mean?

Accepted Answer

Your product may display an error message for a number of reasons, for example if the battery is low. If you’re experiencing an error message, the below images and descriptions should help you to identify the reason why it’s showing.

Blank screen

If the meter won’t turn on or has a blank display, it will be due to one of the following reasons:

Dead battery – you need to insert a new one.
Damaged display – please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Defective meter – please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Extreme temperatures – you need to move the meter to a more temperate area.

Three dashes

If you see 3 dashes or hyphens on your display, it means the meter is not coded or the code key is not inserted. Turn off the meter and make sure the code key is properly inserted. If this does not fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.

Battery icon

The battery icon means the battery power is low. Change the battery soon. Read this article to discover more about changing the battery.

“Set-up” on display

The words “Set-up" displayed on the screen means the meter is in the set-up mode, waiting for you to change or confirm settings. Refer to Chapter 5, "Using the Set-Up Mode", in your owner's booklet.

“Set” on display

The word "Set" displayed on the screen means the meter is in set mode, waiting for you to change or confirm settings. Refer to Chapter 4, "Meter Setup", in your owner's booklet.

“Code exp” on display

If you see "code exp" displayed on the screen, it means that the test strips expire at the end of the current month. Make sure the time and date in the meter are correct. If this does not fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.

Flashing test strip

If a test strip icon is flashing on the screen, it means that the meter is ready for you to insert a test strip.

Blood drop icon

If you see a blood drop and test drop on the screen, it means that the meter is ready for a drop of blood or control solution.

HI in display

If you see the letters HI displayed on the screen, your blood glucose may be higher than the measuring range of the system....

What does the error E-3 mean?

Accepted Answer

"E-3" in the display means your blood glucose may be extremely high or a meter or a test strip error has occurred. The following instructions should help you understand what action to take:

If your test result matches how you feel, contact your healthcare professional immediately.
If your test result does not match how you feel, repeat the test and refer to Chapter 4, "Unusual Blood Glucose Results" in your owner's booklet.
If the E-3 code still appears for your blood glucose test, your blood glucose result may be extremely high and above the system's reading range. Contact your healthcare professional immediately.
If the second test result does not match how you feel, perform a control test with the control solution and a new test strip.
If the control result is within the acceptable range, review the proper testing procedure and repeat the blood glucose test with a new test strip.
